Lynda C. Shely, of The Shely Firm, PC in Scottsdale, Arizona has provided ethics advice to over 2000 firms in the United States on a variety of legal ethics and risk management topics including law firm advertising and solicitation, billing practices, conflict waivers, fee agreements, trust accounting, having staff avoid the unauthorized practice of law, professionalism obligations, law firm dissolutions/transitions, and duties owed to tribunals and opposing parties.  She currently serves on the Arizona Supreme Court’s Alternative Business Structure (ABS) Committee, the Arizona Supreme Court’s Steering Committee on Artificial Intelligence and the Courts, the ABA Standing Committee on Professional Regulation, and the State Bar of Arizona’s Ethics Advisory Group.  Lynda was the 2020 – 2023 Chair of the ABA Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility and an Arizona delegate in the ABA House of Delegates.

Prior to opening her own firm, she was the Director of Lawyer Ethics for the State Bar of Arizona for ten years. Before moving to Arizona Lynda was an intellectual property/antitrust attorney with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Washington, D.C. Lynda received her B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, and her J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

Lynda is a past president of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers, the Scottsdale Bar Association, and the National ABS Law Firm Association. Lynda has received several awards for her contributions to the legal profession, including the 2007 State Bar of Arizona Member of the Year award, the Scottsdale Bar Association’s 2010 Award of Excellence, the 2015 AWLA, Maricopa Chapter, Ruth V. McGregor award, the 2022 Maricopa County Bar Association Member of the Year Award and the 2023 Maricopa County Bar Hall of Fame. She has been an adjunct professor at all Arizona law schools, teaching professional responsibility.
